A while back, during one of my upgrades to the software, a lot of my settings got changed. I thought I had changed all of the important ones back. . . and left one teeny tiny option box checked that shouldn’t have been.

Please accept my apologies if you have tried to comment and have been unable to. I believe I have corrected the problem now, and things should again work the way they used to.

If you continue to have problems, please let me know! I value your feedback and am disappointed that I might have missed a lot of it.

AFK

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 8:01 am

My computer had a hardware failure, and I’ll have only limited access to the internet, including email, for about a week.

Fortunately, I had enough warning that I was able to back everything up and shut the computer down before it self destructed. This is your reminder that this could happen to you. If you don’t have one already, put a backup system in place! I use SyncBack and an external drive.

Welcome PW Readers

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to have a look around! Ree is hands-down the best storyteller on the web, so I’m not going to try to compete with the story of my roller coaster day. Let’s just say it ended on a less sad note.

(If you’re not a PW reader, you should be! Start here.)

Thanks, Ree!

Whoops!

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 9:13 pm

I ran an upgrade of WordPress and lost my colors and such. I have it backed up somewhere, just have to find it!

I’ll try to fix it (or maybe improve on it) soon!

January 14 Update: I’m working on it now.

January 14 Second Update: It still doesn’t look quite right to me, but I’ve restored everything I had backed up. Perhaps I’ll tweak the appearance again soon.

a break

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 4:22 pm

Due to having IRL obligations this week and feeling under the weather, I’ll be taking a short break from blogging. I anticipate I’ll be back within a week, Lord willing.

Not sure what to say about this . . .

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 12:05 am

. . . but I quit smoking 1 year ago (1 year, 0 minutes and 5 seconds. 13140 cigarettes not smoked, according to my “quit counter”; I never look at it any more).

I couldn’t have done it without God and Jefferson. Thank you.

Sears Craftsman CompuCarve

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 8:13 pm

Compact, computer-controlled, 3-dimensional woodworking machine with an easy-to-use interface. It allows a novice to make a complete project without a shop full of tools. The unique configuration allows it to perform many other woodworking functions, including ripping, cross cutting, mitering, contouring, jointing and routing. The CompuCarve can work in most soft materials, including wood, plastics (polycarbonate or cast acrylic) and certain types of high density foam.

Or, to look at it another way, it’s a 3-D printer. Or at least it’s one possible kind of 3-D printer.

Here’s the product page. Here’s a video produced by Sears. (These sites are not Firefox friendly.)

Here are a couple of user-created videos:

Just in case you’re wondering, it’s $1900.

Abandoned Places (to one degree or another)

Filed under: Uncategorized — amo @ 6:14 pm

Not Your Typical Ghost Town (Rhyolite, Nevada) from Mental Floss.

Bodie, California, a ghost town I know a little more about (though I’ve never been there, either).

Motts at opacity takes beautiful photographs of a wide variety of abandoned places in the U.S. and U.K.

Wow, these are getting progressively depressing. But I’d never seen pictures of Chernobyl before. These were taken in 2006.
