The Persephone Pickers: Sounds of the Verse
Jefferson gave me the Persephone Pickers’ CD Sounds of the Verse (from CD Baby) for our anniversary, and I am really enjoying it. The musical style is based on the music from Firefly and Serenity
, which is to say it’s accoustic, instrumental, influenced by a wide variety of folk music from different cultures, and very, very pretty.
Even if you’re not a fan of the TV series or the movie, why not hop on over to The Persephone Pickers’ MySpace page, and see if you like it as much as I do?

What a neat way to learn about music!
The San Francisco Symphony and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas have created this site that tells you more than you probably ever wanted to know about Beethoven’s third symphony, the Sinfonia Eroica, but presents it in an incredibly interesting and entertaining manner. I would love to see more sites like this one!
This reminds me a little bit of the show Dogfights on the History Channel, which combines first-hand accounts of famous air battles with new computer animation, bringing history to life in a unique and exciting way.
I really appreciate the use of new technology to illuminate “old” information and preserve its value and accessibility to us today.
Math Songs
. . . audio and video pieces based on five famous mathematical constants. The constants were “sonified” by assigning notes from various musical instruments to the digits 0 through 9.
Fascinating “number play” by Tom Dukich here, including musical representations of pi.
Boomshine
Boomshine is the prettiest game I’ve seen in a while! Actually, the visual component is just very simple and not overly compelling, but the music/game sounds are beautiful and just a little bit mesmerizing. Complementing the soothing music, the player can attempt each of the 12 levels repeatedly until completed, so one never has to “lose.”
