Pretty Darn Fast PDFs

Filed under: Freeware — amo @ 10:01 pm

Foxit Reader 2.0 is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size (only 1.5 M download size), breezing-fast launch speed and amazingly rich feature set.

Though the price is the same ($0), Foxit is much faster than Adobe on my computer and even worked with my “virtual paychecks”! (The latest version of Adobe Reader doesn’t.)

I highly recommend Foxit for those with a little computer savvy.

Let the novice beware, though: I had a little difficulty finding the right link to select to get the free version, and to set it up, I had to change the default settings for PDFs in two different places, My Computer and Firefox.

McAfee SiteAdvisor

This free extension for Firefox (and Internet Explorer) is fabulous! From the site:

“SiteAdvisor’s automated testers continually patrol the Web to browse sites, download files, and sign-up on sites with e-mail addresses. Then, as you search, browse, download or register online, SiteAdvisor’s safety ratings change color based on our test results. SiteAdvisor helps you stay informed, in control and safe online.”

For someone (like me) who frequently searches for lyrics and other information that may be on suspect websites, this is a must have! Get it here.
